VAN CLEEF & ARPELS “ROMEO & JULIET” HIGH JEWELLERY COLLECTION, PARIS COUTURE WEEK 2019
Hot on the heels of Paris Haute Couture and four days of fashion shows comes the latest collections of high jewellery from many of the world’s top jewellery brands like Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati, Dior, Chanel, De Beers, Piaget, Chaumet, Messika, Louis Vuitton, Suzanne Syz, David Morris and more. It’s an exclusive event open only to clients and journalists and a great honour to attend. I hope you enjoy my curation of new jewellery discoveries from Paris Haute Couture.
Every time I discover a high jewellery collection from Van Cleef & Arpels, it feels like I’m meeting an old friend who has developed beautiful new traits while we were apart. Glorious signature gemstone and diamond clips have evolved into the next captivating story waiting for me to discover. Entering the magical Place Vendôme Van Cleef & Arpels display felt so surreal with red, blue and yellow accents radiating from Lorenzo Mattotti drawings and the orange lighting bathing me in the warm, rosy hues of the approaching dawn. I just couldn’t wait to explore the jewels and soak up the ambiance of this magical space!
The art jewels of Van Cleef & Arperls is an imaginative journey through literature, poetry, dreams and jewellery craftsmanship. Remember the Quatre Contes de Grimm 2018 and Le Secret 2017 collections full of delicate fantasy clips? This time, for Paris Haute Couture Week 2019 Van Cleef & Arpels interpreted William Shakespeare’s masterpiece, the tragic story of Verona’s young lovers Romeo & Juliet.
Each step of their journey is gemified into a Verona of precious stones and more than one hundred exquisite haute jewellery creations. The lore of Renaissance Italian high society, the scenes of the lovers’ story, and Verona’s beautiful gardens and architecture provide precious inspiration for Van Cleef & Arpels high jewellery collection.
Meet the duo themselves! I could spend hours studying their delicate figures! This precious Romeo clip is dressed in white gold, blue sapphires, lapis lazuli and yellow diamonds. He is holding an engraved sword to show his determination and chivalry. Juliet, in her turn, wears a ruby headdress and a glittering medieval dress encrusted with orange sapphires, garnets, rubies and diamonds. The red and blue tones of Van Cleef & Arpels 2019 high jewellery collection pay tribute to the Capulets and Montagues’ family coat of arms. Notice the elegant mauve sapphire bouquet in Romeo’s hand, representing a blend of two shades: passionate love amidst warring families.
Silhouettes of the Renaissance époque are echoed in a dazzling array of spectacular necklaces boasting the rarest gemstones: luscious emeralds representing the gardens of Verona, deep blue sapphires evoking waters of the Adige, and blood red rubies setting the tone for all-consuming passion between two lovers… This gorgeous necklace designed by Van Cleef & Arpels is one of the greatest highlights for me of the new Romeo & Juliet high jewellery collection. Just the slightest touch of these precious jewels can make one tremble! The finest diamonds meticulously set in gold to pave the royal scene for a gorgeous cabochon emerald. Discover everything you need to know about emeralds.
There are no words to describe how it feels to witness the story of Romeo & Juliet unfold in marvellous jewels! Watch my IGTV to see it firsthand!
