GEM TALK WITH LUCREZIA BUCCELLATI, BUCCELLATI CO DESIGNER
The series of interviews with women and men who have personalities, story to tell and their own GEM style. They make it happen for themselves all over the world and follow GEMOLOGUE by Liza Urla.
Lucrezia Buccellati may only be 26 years old, but she is beautiful, talented, capable and already a mother. I interviewed her during a fabulous Buccellati Opera Collection launch party at Spencer House, London’s most magnificent eighteenth-century aristocratic palace built between 1756-1766. She is at the helm of one of the most distinguished four generations jewelry houses in the world.

IN THE BEGINNING: The jewelry world has been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I would say I really fell in love with it when I was around 5 or 6 years old when I started visiting my grandfather and my father at the atelier and saw what amazing pieces of jewelry they were creating. I remember the first time I saw precious stones: sapphires, rubies, emeralds.
NYC DEBUT: NYC was a huge step in my life, both personally and business wise. When I moved here I launched my first line with Buccellati called Blossom that was a huge success. It was the first silver jewelry collection for the brand. The first two years I moved in NYC I was also studying at FIT, which was amazing for the development of my designer skills.
POWER COMES FROM: Power comes from being confident in yourself. It takes time to know what you want and be determined. That is power. Each step you take in your life will help you build it.
BEAUTY ESSENTIALS: I like to vary my products and I love finding new things that work for me. These are my essentials: Tata Harper “Regenerating Cleanser”, Clarasonic Brush, Boscia “Tsubaki Oil Deep Hydration Hydrogel Mask”, Le Roche-Possay Face Cream, Buxom Lipstick Color “Dolly”, Cucumber Mask By Peter Thomas Roth, Laura Mercier Bronzer, Anastasia Eyebrow Pencil. In the morning I like to use some ice on my face to get rid of the puffiness around my eyes and tighten the skin.
TOPSHOP OR CHANEL: Both: I love to mix and match. TopShop – I love their fun shoes, dresses, tops and sexy skirts. Channel – I love theirs shoes coats and accessories (costume jewelry, bags & make up).
FASHION: I am classic but contemporary, I always have a bit of rock. I go crazy for leather jackets, which are an absolute must-have in my closet. I love vests of any type: fur, leather, or dressy ones. I always go with tight jeans, and leggings are the thing I always put in my bag when I travel. My favourite brands are Giuseppe Zanotti for pumps, Acquazzura for shoes, Ellery for geometric cuts of their shirts and jackets, Anthony Vaccarello for sexy dresses / skirts, Self-portrait for unique dresses, Rag & Bone for jeans. The last items I added to my wardrobe are Isabel Marrant sweater and Acquazzura pumps.
ONLINE SHOPPING: Yes, I shop a lot online. Net-A-Porter is my usual go-to place, as well as Shopbob and Revolve Clothing. I like Moda Operandi for unique things.
GEM STYLE: My jewelry style is very mixed. For high-end jewelry Buccellati, for more casual pieces I like to play around with fun rings, long necklaces and unique earrings, not necessarily with stones but for sure I like to find cool shapes. I like when they play with different colors of gold or different materials. Most of the time I’m buying from upcoming designers. Jewelry is what complements me. Each piece has a meaning for me that’s why I get attached to everything I have: there is always a story. My dream jewelry is a crown.
FIRST JEWELLERY: A little teddy bear ring that my grandfather made for me when I was 5 years old. I tend to favor sapphires, because I feel their meaning reflects my personality: spiritual and powerful, yet humble at the same time. I guess that’s why my husband picked a sapphire instead of a diamond for my engagement ring.
MY EVERYDAY JEWELLERY: My everyday jewelry is my Opera Eternelle ring, wedding band and a little spiritual pendant on a chain to protect me.
PERFECT ENGAGEMENT RING: Simple and unique.
ROLEX OR CARTIER: If I had to pick, probably Cartier. I don’t wear watches, instead I usually look at my phone. However, if I had to pick a watch I would like it to be a bit more dressy and precious, perfect for any occasion.
MEN JEWELLERY: A long chain with a pendant. I don’t like when it is too short, and a simple bracelet. No more than that.
FINE JEWELLERY: When I’m looking to buy a piece of fine jewelry I want craftsmanship, precious stones and unique design, not something that somebody else has.
JEWELLERY AS AN INVESTMENT: Yes, jewelry is an investment that you can wear, not only because of the stones, but also when you buy one of a kind pieces.
VINTAGE JEWELLERY: Love vintage jewelry, because I feel they have such a story behind them, like an art painting.
FASHION JEWELLERY: I really like fashion jewelry but I don’t really wear it anymore: maybe once in a while for some parties. Before I started working for the family brand, I used to have my own fashion jewelry line, so I for sure have a passion for it.
PERFECT GETAWAY: There are 3 places in the world that are in my heart. First is India: Goa, New Delhi and Jaipur. The second is French Polynesia, the beautiful Tuamutu islands and the Marchesas. Last is Kamalaya spa resort in Koh Samui, Thailand.
COACHELLA OR BURNING MAN: Coachella for sure, I love to dance.
MY WEAPON OF CHOICE: Cross-bow silent and lethal.
WILD WISH: Go to space.
