THE CROWNING GLORY: BULGARI CELEBRATES QE2 WITH JUBILEE EMERALD GARDEN TIARA

A majestic emerald fit for a queen, Bulgari high jewelry has created another stunning masterpiece with their Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara in celebration of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. So thrilling! It’s my first time seeing a Bulgari tiara and I can’t wait to show you.

Founded in Rome in 1884, Bulgari jewelry has built a world-renowned reputation over the years for their Italian excellence, masterful craftsmanship and magnificent coloured gems, especially emeralds – the queen of gems. From Cleopatra to Queen Elizabeth II, emeralds have been the favourite among the royals and the Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara is no exception:

“This Bulgari high jewelry tiara was inspired by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, a strong and powerful woman, an icon of our times, and by her historic admiration of emeralds.”  Lucia Silvestri, High Jewellery Creative Director at Bulgari.

Her Majesty, the emerald, takes centre stage in the Bulgari Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara and is part of the Bulgari Eden, The Garden of Wonders High Jewellery collection. This stunning emerald  was chosen especially for the Platinum Jubilee Tiara by Lucia Silvestri, who found it while hunting for gems in Jaipur, India. It is a Zambian emerald with provenance, which makes it a sound investment.

What’s unique about the Zambian emerald is the jewel’s delicate carving of a lotus flower, a traditional Jaipur craft from the 16th century, representing the floral motifs of Persian art. It takes incredible skill and precision to carve such beauty into a precious stone like the Jubilee Emerald. It truly is a one-of-a-kind show-stopper at 63.44 carats!

“To design a piece centred around this striking, carved emerald, showcases Bulgari’s mastery in craftsmanship and creativity.” Lucia Silvestri

The Bulgari Queen Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara takes its inspiration from the famous Fife Tiara with its emerald drop gems, worn by Queen Victoria. It is the queen of tiaras and something to be celebrated.

My date with the Bulgari Queen Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara was in the Bulgari VIP lounge on the first floor. This room was designed in honour of Elizabeth Taylor, who is, in her own right, Hollywood Royalty. She was passionate about emeralds and her high jewellery collection is one of the most famous in the world. Dozens of pictures of the beautiful actress, including several of her as Queen Cleopatra, hang on every wall in the VIP room. To be surrounded by so many magnificent Bulgari jewels is breathtaking. The perfect place on New Bond Street to be Queen for a day!

You can’t help but feel like royalty when you walk into the Bulgari New Bond Street boutique in London. With its high ceilings and rose marble and bronze grand staircase, the Bulgari jewelry boutique gives you a sense of grandeur and luxury. Designed by architect Peter Marino, the same designer who did the interior of Andy Warhol’s townhouse in 1978, it’s something you have to experience for yourselves.

Tiaras traditionally were associated with nobility and were worn by brides on their wedding day to symbolise the happy couples’ crowning love. The word ‘tiara’ comes from the 16th century Persian word for the elaborately constructed headdress commonly worn by Persian kings at the time. Today, the tiara can be worn by just about anyone and is still a favourite part of a bride’s accessories.

The Bulgari Queen Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara is without exception a masterful piece of craftsmanship. It sparkles with hundreds of emeralds and diamonds, each lovingly hand-set by highly skilled craftsmen. As a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, the Bulgari emerald tiara is set in platinum. The whole piece took a master goldsmith and a team of five talented craftsmen 1,500 hours to complete.

But the marvel of the piece doesn’t stop there. In the true style of traditional tiaras, particularly of the 19th century, the Bulgari Queen Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara transforms into a beautiful emerald and diamond necklace. The necklace is released from the platinum mount through a series of hidden and innovative hinges and joints. It is a spectacular achievement, showcasing Bulgari high jewelry’s attention to detail, extraordinary creativity and meticulous craftsmanship.

If you’re in London and happen to be passing by the Bulgari Bond Street Boutique, pause for a moment to celebrate the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and take in the magnificence of The Jubilee Emerald Garden Tiara on display in the window. You can also book an appointment to preview this majestic piece in person.
