ANTONIO BERNARDO PUZZLE RING REVIEW
What a perfect way to pass the time during lockdown but with this puzzle ring by Brazilian jewellery designer, Antonio Bernardo. A signature piece created in 2006, the Antonio Bernardo puzzle ring is playfully called, Life Is A Puzzle, and consists of eight pieces that open with a hidden key. During my visit to Rio de Janeiro, I sat down with Antonio Bernard to learn more about this truly iconic and very popular design.
How fun is it to play with your jewellery? I’m always fiddling with my jewellery. I find it has a meditative quality and it grounds me somehow. It’s as if Antonio instinctively knew how much we enjoy playing with our jewellery when he created the puzzle ring. Inspired by the entertainment value of jewellery, Antonio brought together an innovative design with traditional elements to create a sculptured and sophisticated piece of jewellery.
The ring has a smooth, curvaceous, three-dimensional quality rendered in three different colours of gold alloy. (A real test in gold jewellery photography and flat lay jewellery photography). The original combination of white, yellow and rose gold together in one piece of jewellery is unusual and makes this piece much more than a gold puzzle. It’s a stunning piece of craftsmanship and the kind of hefty statement ring I’d love to wear or gift to my husband.
The best part is every time you wear the ring or take it off, you get to construct and deconstruct the puzzle ring. Check out GEMOLOGUE Instagram to see the process for yourself.
Held together with a special, hidden key, the Antonio Bernardo puzzle ring holds a deeper meaning. A key is a powerful symbol of freedom, love and security. Lovers hold the key to each other’s hearts, precious things are kept safe under lock and key, and we can explore many different worlds by unlocking the doors of opportunity.
The key in the Antonio Bernardo puzzle ring is cleverly disguised within the design, curving around the finger and locking the puzzle securely together. Each piece of the puzzle is crafted with expert precision to seamlessly fit together and remain in place when worn. Truly a masterpiece.
