The cool thing about personalised jewellery is that it’s a cheeky way to make a statement while creating mystery at the same time. People might assume these monogram earrings are my initials, but they’d be wrong. Only I know what the letters S, R, L stand for, (wink, wink) and that always puts a smile on my face when I’m walking down the street in these must-have studs. These stud earrings are made of .925 sterling silver, and measure about 5/8″ each. I chose rose gold plated silver for my studs.

I like the idea that earrings were believed to keep evil spirits from entering the body through the ears. This was important when I was choosing the letters for my monogram earrings. The thought of keeping my siblings close to my side, where I can protect them drew me to the idea of using their initials, instead of just my own, to make these beautiful studs truly personal and unique to me.

Earrings have been a principal piece of jewellery throughout the ages for both men and women, and were often worn as a symbol of identity, rank or status. It’s funny to think that earrings were rarely worn during the day, or that they were once banned by certain religions, and only worn by pirates and thieves. I prefer to think of earrings as a talisman and a symbol of prosperity.

Every jewellery collection needs a pair of gold studs, and these are affordable enough, you can share them with your friends or family. They make the ideal gift, a meaningful token with a special meaning.

What I especially like about these earrings is how light and comfortable they are to wear. The simple, modern design speaks to me and I feel this organic connection when I wear them. The modern font in all capitals creates a design of its own, and becomes a unique pattern.

When you think of personalized jewellery, your mind immediately flips to the 60s and 70s when ID bracelets and necklaces were all the rage. But the idea of monogramming personal items has been around for thousands of years. Throughout the ages, artisans have always marked their work with their own personal monogram. Think of Louis Vuitton or the iconic double C of the Chanel brand logo.
