JEWELLERY DESIGNER TO WATCH: MEIRA TUGENDHAFT, MEIRA T
I interviewed lovely Meira from Meira T in NYC and picked my favourite Meira T jewels in Harrods. I tried jewels in the recently launched contemporary Fashion Lab on the 4th floor and had various brands to match jewels with such as Maje, Zadig & Voltaire, The Kooples, Joseph and Sandro.
In the morning… Starbucks coffee then I walk to work with my dog through central park
Born, Lived, Based…Germany, Belgium, New York
Grace Kelly or Grace Jones… Grace Kelly
Start designing jewellery after… I worked at a diamond company and needed to be creative
Inspiration comes from… Nature and New York City. Natural but edgy the clashing of opposites
The art of jewellery… Makes me feel alive
Fashion role in your creativity… Everywhere. I live for fashion. Does not need to be a designer just need to be unique
Success is… Love. After that all things pretty.
The biggest opposing force that you encountered on your creative journey… Having my designs copied. It has been something I have been struggling and trying to cope with emotionally. I take my art seriously so it deeply hurts when i see my ideas elsewhere. Especially my patented off centered charms. I choose to fight it even though I have been advised to let it go and ignore it
Next… Who knows.Handbags. I am obsessed with bags and shoes.
My perfect Christmas present… Shoes!!!! Stilettos! High and painful just the way I like them….
Perfect Christmas is with… My family
Perfect Christmas is at… Home
Favourite cliché… Alls well that ends well… Where there is a will there is a way… A rolling stones gathers no moss… I love my cliches 🙂
Guilty pleasure… Chocalate lava cake
Tech must-haves…. Iphone
Favourite fashion designers… Stella McCartney, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Alexander McQueen
Artwork you most like in your living room… A garbage box. It is literally plexiglass garbage sculpture with old haagen dazs ice cream containers. My husband used to be friends with Arman in the 80’s and we got this for a steal… Now its a real conversation piece everyone that walks into the house says something about it I would never sell it.
Books that changed your life… Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
One way ticket to…. Thailand please!
Favourite cities… New York City, London,Venice, Hong Kong
Favourite hotels… Four seasons in Chiang Mai
Favourite gallery… MOMA
Favourite restaurants… Serafina
Favourite boutiques… Boutiques in Turkey. Next to the water tower in Istanbul there is amazing boutiques for new designers
Later today… Flying to a jewelry show
