DIAMOND JEWELLERY
When Bonhams invited me to view this jewellery auction, there were three stunning diamond lots that caught my eye. These diamond jewels, like all diamonds, are a timeless investment you can pass on to future generations. Always fashionable, diamonds are forever!
This beautiful pair of diamond flower brooches (LOT 391) hints at the promise of love and romance. Each flower dances on a ribbon of white gold and pave diamonds, tied together in a “love” knot. There is a connection between this pair, one that will evolve into a ring upon your finger. This transformable brooch is so breathtaking I had to capture it on video. See how it changes from stunning brooch to remarkable ring in my GEMOLOGUE Instagram reel. It’s no wonder it is the highlight of the September 14th Bonhams Knightsbridge Jewels auction.
If the sparkle in this 7-carat diamond ring (LOT 375) doesn’t catch your eye, I’ll be amazed. The setting elevates the diamond to show off the mirror effect of this step-cut diamond, giving the ring a sense of grandeur and elegance. A bargain at the asking price, you must see this beauty up close to see the colour and clarity for yourself! The ring size is tad on the small side, but it makes an exceptional pinky ring.
Make a statement with these floral diamond ear clips (LOT 390) and fall in love with nearly 5 carats of sparkling diamonds. A perfect complement to the diamond flower brooches. I love how the diamond-set petals resemble hearts, adding a touch of romanticism to these jewels. You can wear these earrings in a variety of ways, but I would fashion them into studs for fear of losing them.
LOT 391 TWO DIAMOND FLOWER BROOCHES, CIRCA 1960
Each designed as a flower, the petals and stems are set with cushion and old brilliant-cut diamonds, while the flowerhead of the smaller brooch converts to a ring with the aid of an accompanying screwdriver. Approximately 9.80 carats in total.
Estimate £5,000 – £7,000
LOT 375 DIAMOND SINGLE-STONE RING
Set with a step-cut diamond, weighing 7.01 carats, this ring shines between two brilliant-cut diamond shoulders.
Estimate £8,000 – £12,000
LOT 390 DIAMOND FLOWER EARCLIPS CIRCA 1960
Each designed as a flowerhead, set throughout with cushion and old brilliant-cut diamonds, diamonds approximately 4.90 carats in total.
Estimate £3,000 – £5,000
EMERALD JEWELLERY
With so many beautiful emeralds to choose from in this jewellery auction, it wasn’t easy choosing a favourite. So I’ve narrowed it down to six exquisite jewels that would please the hearts of any jewellery lover or dealer alike. Although I cannot vouch for the treatment of these gemstones, I would gladly wear any of these emerald rings with pride. And at such an attractive price point, you can’t go wrong. For more than 4000 years emeralds have been believed to bring peace and harmony, while sharpening the mind and intellect. SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RINGS
What is it about sapphire cluster rings that makes you feel like royalty? Since the 14th century, sapphire engagement rings have been the choice among nobility. The colour blue signifies trust and loyalty and is a popular choice for brides and loved-ones. The perfect engagement ring or anniversary gift, there are three lots of sapphire rings worth bidding on, estimated at £1200 too £3000 (do not forget about the buyer’s premium and VAT).
Choose from a royal blue circular-cut sapphire surrounded by 10 brilliant-cut diamonds set in yellow gold (LOT 33). Or perhaps you prefer an oval-cut sapphire set in white gold with a surround of seven brilliant-cut diamonds and majestically held between two baguette-cut, tapered diamond shoulders (LOT 50). Or this Sri Lankan soft, pastel blue oval-cut sapphire encircled by 16 cushion-shaped diamonds set in yellow gold. Weighs approximately 5.40 carats with no signs of heating (LOT 373)!
LOT 33 SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RING
Estimate £1,200 – £1,500
LOT 50 SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RING
Estimate £2,000 – £3,000
LOT 373 SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RING
Estimate £1,500 – £2,000
DIAMOND TENNIS BRACELETS
It was the Art Deco movement of the 1920s that started the trend of the diamond line bracelet and it has never gone out of fashion. Later gaining fame in the 1970s as the tennis bracelet worn by US Pro Chris Evert, it’s still a must-have for every jewellery box. Dress it up or dress it down, wear just one or a stack of line bracelets, this is one style that is perfect for everyday wear.
At the top of my list is a signed Cartier diamond line bracelet with approximately 1.80 carats of old brilliant-cut diamonds (LOT 384). At a more affordable estimate, look at the box-link bracelet, set throughout with approximately 5.60 carats of graduated brilliant-cut diamonds or the yellow gold bracelet with approximately 8.00 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds.
LOT 64 DIAMOND LINE BRACELET
Estimate £2,000 – £3,000
LOT 384 CARTIER: DIAMOND LINE BRACELET
Estimate £3,000 – £5,000
LOT 393 DIAMOND LINE BRACELET
Estimate £4,000 – £6,000
SURPRISE JEWELLERY PICKS
Twinkle and dazzle with these modern-looking aquamarine and diamond earrings. Sure to make a statement, each tassel design is set with alternating rows of pear-shaped aquamarine gemstones and brilliant-cut and marquise-cut diamonds. Complete with French assay marks, this gemstone design is a winner.
LOT 48 AQUAMARINE AND DIAMOND PENDANT EARRINGS
Estimate £2,500 – £4,000
The incredible thing about opals is the way light dances across the gemstone, reflecting a rainbow of colour and sparkle from within. You’ll fall in love with this breathtaking opal with its circular cabochon cut, delicately framed in a ring of cushion-shaped diamonds and closed back setting. Opals are a true wonder of nature, each one a different shade defined by the internal structure of silica spheres and the spaces in between. Discover the true beauty of this October birthstone in the GEMOLOGUE Opal Curation.
LOT 107 OPAL AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RING
Estimate £2,000 – £3,000
I fell so deeply in love with Sevan Biçakçi’s work when I was visiting Istanbul, I had to bring one of his sculptural rings home with me. I wear it almost every day. So I was over the moon when I saw one of his rings in the Bonhams Knightsbridge Jewels auction. If you are planning to attend the auction viewings, ask for Lot 45. The craftsmanship will astound you. A truly unique piece of jewellery, this rock crystal ring is carved in reverse to show an owl framed in single-cut diamonds, accented with side stones of yellow and black rose-cut diamonds. It is mounted in silver and gold, and signed by Sevan Biçakçi.
LOT 45 SEVAN BIÇAKÇI: DIAMOND AND COLOURED DIAMOND INTAGLIO RING, 2011
Estimate £3,000 – £5,000
