GEMOLOGUE TALK AT JCK LAS VEGAS
Like the Queen of the Desert herself, I arrived in Las Vegas dressed in full headgear, excited at the thought of giving a talk at JCK, one of the biggest jewellery trade fairs in the US. It was exciting to be a part of a series of talks and panel discussions with other editors and tastemakers of the industry, including editors from Glamour, The Zoe Report, OliviaPalermo.com.
A great vibe filled the room as I took to the stage to share the latest trends and discoveries from my trip. I spoke about my passion for the jewellery industry and how I have created events like #GEMIFY in London to reunite jewellery lovers around the world. We took to Sloane Square in London around Christmas time to spread some kindness and good cheer…and gold dust!
Wearing my latest pearl headpiece and Iradj Moini brooches, I wasted no time in telling the audience about my obsession with pearls. It’s become a recurring fashion statement for me every year to show up at London Fashion Week, dressed in my latest pearl inspiration. I call this newest piece my “Jewel of the Day.”
As a jewellery influencer, making a statement is something I aspire to and this look that I selected for JCK LUXURY was just the thing for Las Vegas! True to my own nature of merging jewellery with fashion, I was inspired by Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
SHOP THE LOOK:
Who doesn’t love pearls? Since the dawn of time, pearls have stood as a symbol for life itself, and for love, virtue and wisdom. This look I chose for JCK LUXURY was a result of two ideas colliding, where my pearl #JewelleryFace (à la Givenchy) meets the Kokoshnik, a traditional Russian head piece. I believe jewellery plays an important, yet independent role in the fashion scene and I’m just the person to give it the platform it deserves!
My aim is to raise awareness about pearls and change universal perception. In the hope that I can help pearl farmers worldwide to thrive, and to give pearls the recognition they deserve. This isn’t a gem only reserved for elderly women from another era. It’s time to bring pearls back into the spotlight and showcase them for the natural wonders they truly are.
My pearl passion has flourished since my talk earlier this year at the International Pearl Forum in Munich. I intend to keep spreading the word to help save pearl farms from going under. It’s an industry worth saving, and it’s a constant struggle competing with polluted waters, environmental challenges and global warming. Oysters need clean water to thrive.
Many questions were raised during the talk, and I tried to address all of them. If you still have questions, please read my recent post called, A day in the Life of Liza Urla. I would also love to hear from you in the comments section. So please post any questions you might have in comments and I’ll film a fun Q&A during Masterpiece London.
