GLAM WINGS GARRARD HARRODS LONDON

I visited the elegant Garrard boutique in Harrods Luxury Room. Garrard’s combination of tradition and contemporary design is positively awe-inspiring!

At their core, Garrard designs are young and tempting. Sara Prentice joined Garrard in September 2012 as Head Designer working closely with CEO Eric Deardorff in reviving the oldest jewellery house in the world.

Garrard

The legacy of the oldest jewellery house in the world began in 1735, as a workshop on Panton Street in London. Since 1843, when Queen Victoria bestowed the honour of Crown Jeweller on the company, Garrard has served six successive British monarchs. Garrard’s craftsmen and jewellery experts have created and maintained the iconic symbols of the British Royal Family, the “Crown Jewels”, known as the most important jewels in the United Kingdom. The Sovereign’s Sceptre with the Cross was partly remade by Garrard in 1910 to accommodate the largest and most finest cut diamond in the world, the Cullinan I, weighing 530 carats.

I am  fascinated by truly original diamond cuts, from the Boodle Ashoka to Louis Vuitton Lily and Garrard Eternal cuts. An exclusive to Garrard is the Eternal Cut, designed by Gabi Tolkowsky, the master cutter renowned for having fashioned the largest diamond in the world. The Eternal Cut has a unique petal design that appears in its centre, the cut intensifies the quality and light reflected from the stone.

Garrard glam wings is a modern classic to be adored and admired for generations to come. Garrard Wings collection is a blend of superb artistic mastery with whimsical elegance representing peace, purity and protection. My beloved Verdura was especially fond of wings.

Wings are symbolic of the ability to overcome greed, lust and other negative traits. We’ve all got wings and inherent ability to glide above and beyond the primitive, substandard tendencies. Coco Chanel once said “If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing.”

In jewellery, Wing mania is a never ending trend, Rock and Gothic, Black and White. For me Garrard wings are modern classic. Winged brooches, rings and pendants offer a certain sexy quality.
