DE BEERS “DIAMOND LEGENDS” HIGH JEWELLERY COLLECTION, PARIS COUTURE WEEK 2018

Hot on the heels of Paris Haute Couture and four days of fashion shows comes the latest collections of high jewellery from many of the world’s top jewellery brands like Buccellati, Dior, Chanel, De Beers, Piaget, Chaumet, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chopard, Louis Vuitton, David Yurman, Ana Khouri, Lydia Courteille and more. It’s an exclusive event open only to clients and journalists and a great honour to attend. I hope you enjoy my curation of new jewellery discoveries from Paris Haute Couture.

My next stop is Rue de la Paix and the De Beers salon to see their epic high jewellery collection Diamond Legend. It’s an historical journey of iconic diamond myths envisioned in four exceptional High Jewellery diamond sets: Cupid, Ra, Celestia, and Vulcan.

I loved last year’s collection Lotus from De Beers High Jewellery during Paris Couture 2017, and I was excited to learn more about the De Beers diamond history in this year’s collection.

Diamonds were believed to be sent from the gods, imbued with magical properties and linked to essential virtues like love, strength and eternity. The ancient Greeks and Romans looked upon diamonds as tears from the gods fallen from the heavens. Diamond Legends celebrates this wondrous creation as Nature’s most remarkable treasure, while reflecting De Beers 130 years of experience and passion as the Home of Diamonds since 1888. Looking forward to celebrating De Beers big birthday this year!

It all begins with the historic Eureka Diamond and a part of De Beers diamond history. I couldn’t believe my luck at seeing this treasure up close. It certainly is a legend of a diamond. As the story goes, it was accidentally found by 15-year-old Erasmus Jacobs, skipping stones along the banks of the Orange River. It is the first diamond to be formally recognised in South Africa and stands at a significant 21.25 carats, which sparkles as a 10.73 carat cushion-cut diamond.

Once I tore myself away from the famous Eureka Diamond, I was ready to try on some jewellery from the De Beers high jewellery collection Diamond Legends.

The first ring I tried on was from the Ra set of jewels, which represents the Egyptian sun god and creator of life. The Ra Ring is a dazzling composition of yellow and white diamonds radiating out in an array of fancy cuts and pavé forms. For the Ancient Egyptians, the sun was believed to be the ultimate manifestation of eternal life, and a diamond the reflection of its power.

RA RING Pear-shaped diamonds with a 1.50 carat fancy intense yellow SI2 round brilliant diamond.

It was so much fun trying these jewels on in a photo booth setting.  I even got to wear a diamond ring of more than 100 carats. Simply breath-taking!

The Cupid Ear Cuff is a classic piece of jewellery that depicts the legend of the god of love from the set of the same name. The legend goes that the Roman god of desire used diamond-tipped arrows to inflict infinite and eternal love upon his intended targets.

CUPID EAR CUFFS Princess and marquise-cut diamonds with pear-shaped drops. Left pear is a G VVS2 1.80 carat diamond and the right pear is a G VVS1 1.77 carat diamond.

The Vulcan set of jewels was probably my favourite of Diamond Legends. The Olympian god Vulcan used the power of fire and the strength of diamonds to forge treasures from the depth of a volcano.

VULCAN PEAR-CUT RING An exceptional E VS2 3.53 carat pear-shaped diamond surrounded by rough diamonds.

VULCAN ROUND BRILLIANT RING Beautiful rough diamonds surround a G VS2 2.52 carat round brilliant solitaire

VULCAN BRACELET A line of polished round brilliant diamonds is perfectly complemented with cascading rough diamond drops in a variety of natural hues.

VULCAN NECKLACE Detachable rough diamond rows surround a polished diamond line necklace with five pear-shaped drops.

De Beers high jewellery collection Diamond Legends captures the supernatural history of these magnificent jewels and reimagines it through Cupid, Ra, Celestia and Vulcan in a variety of natural hues and fancy-cut, fancy colour, and exceptional rough diamonds.

I couldn’t stop looking at the rough coloured diamonds; it’s mesmerizing. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever seen a rough diamond before.
