JEWELLERY STYLING TIPS BY LIZA URLA
1. Do not forget to put your jewellery on!
Jewellery never fails to lift the spirits! Keep it close at hand, in a visible place. Put necklaces on same hangers as matching dresses, keep it next to your stack of make-up and perfumes. Jewellery is essential to finishing off your look, DO NOT LEAVE YOU HOUSE WITHOUT IT. Put a daily morning reminder on your phone! Pick your everyday jewels that you can sleep and take a bath.
2. Have fun mixing fine and fashion jewellery in the same look.
Combining the two is a stylish fashion trend, and your chance to spice up your everyday jewellery style. Styling your diamond engagement ring or your favourite gold bracelet with a new piece of costume jewellery will result in a brand new personal jewellery style.
3. Organise your jewellery.
Are they a total mess, and do you have to rifle through bundles in order to find it? Invest in a quality jewellery box, with lots of little open compartments, which will organise your jewellery in the most efficient way, and will facilitate your daily jewellery dilemmas!
4. Do not be lazy with your jewellery.
To add a breath of fresh air to your jewellery style, set yourself a challenge of changing your gems every other day. Look at jewelry blogs for inspiration. Match your rarely worn jewel with one of your staple items in your wardrobe. Never underestimate the power of the cocktail ring!
5. Develop your alpha female and sensual seductress jewellery styles.
Keep it minimal, Scandinavian style during daytime, sticking to small elegant or edgy pieces, clean lines, timeless pearls, discreet diamonds and a touch of coloured stones. When night falls, spice it up by putting on your eye-catching pieces that would draw attention to you and that could be a conversation opener. Never forget that a good piece of jewellery is a great icebreaker! Chokers are particularly sexy, drawing attention to one of the most sensual part of your body, your neck.
6. Parures are no longer in fashion.
Make a statement with one part of your jewellery “set”: either earrings, or necklaces, or bracelets, or rings; and keep it restrained with other elements. Smaller styles look interesting when worn in groups. Stacking rings is a hot trend and a great way to explore your personal style and give new life to a ring that’s a little lonely and boring on its own. Perhaps, a colourful statement necklace, or an armful of bangles, or stacked rings. Do not hesitate, go with your gut and choose whatever you love. If you focus on bracelets and rings, make sure your nails are well groomed.
7. Put together your one-of-a-kind pendant necklace: an easy way to update your current look!
Search for key personal ingredients around your abode – small rings, pearls, charms, gifts from your loved one, family heirlooms, purchases to mark milestones, which you have accumulated over the years – and assemble them onto a long chain. This will be your most personal piece of jewellery.
8. Brooch it up, the most over-looked piece of jewellery!
A brooch can add an instant touch of chic to your outfit. Pin a brooch to you favourite masculine blazer to add some feminine flair. Do not be afraid to attach it to a more unusual place… perhaps in place of the top button of your shirt, or your hat, or your skirt. Combine a few small brooches for a unique and whimsical look – but keep it to the same style, for example, art deco or pop art.
9. Be comfortable in your own jewellery.
Try to define your jewellery style: it is classic, edgy, contemporary, minimal? Jewellery world is vibrant and never fails to surprise. Be experimental, but do not go outside your comfort zone with your purchases. Watch out for statement jewellery, with antique inspired elements this season!
10. Mismatching your jewellery is the way forward.
Mix your colours of gold, they complement each other more than you think! The one-earring trend is very hot right now as well as earrings of different lengths or colours; by creating an unbalanced look it draws attention to your face by its asymmetry.
11. Collect jewellery on your travels.
Jewels obviously make the best souvenirs, as well as supporting local craftsmen. Learn the story and traditions behind each piece. Jewellery from foreign lands will always be unique and full of wonderful memories. Tribal jewellery is very much en vogue right now, so gems from you travels will be perfect to wear at home!
12. Celebrate your achievements with a beautiful jewel.
Reward yourself for your achievements. Sophia Loren says in her autobiography Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: My Life as a Fairy Tale: “Each piece had reminded me not only of the movies that I’d worked on, but all the emotions at the time. I could relive everything by wearing a necklace my neck or a ring on my finger.“
