LOUIS VUITTON SERIES 3: WHEN JEWELLERY, ACCESSORIES AND ART COLLIDE

My fascination with jewellery comes from my love for artistic expression, and a passion for beautiful works of art. It’s the connection you feel with the artist when you try on a magnificent piece of jewellery or spy a stunning piece of art for the first time. It’s inspiring. So it should come as no surprise to learn that when jewellery, accessories and art come together in one place, I’ll be the first in line!

When I heard that the LOUIS VUITTON SERIES 3 exhibit was coming to the Strand in London, I was tingly with excitement! With Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière now at the helm, Louis Vuitton is emerging with a new modern look.

Louis Vuitton has always captured my eye as an innovative brand with a fashion-forward sense of style and an interesting history of artistic collaboration. If there’s one brand that stands out for its involvement with the art world, it’s Louis Vuitton.

I remember my visit to the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. Nestled at the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, this magnificent Frank Gehry structure stands out like a diamond in the rough! I was lucky enough to visit this monumental building for a special exhibit with some engaging works of art – Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” Matisse’s “Dance” and Léger’s “Three Women (Le Grand Déjeuner).”

I remember sitting in the restaurant, affectionately called Frank, and taking in the panoramic views and the delicious aromas wafting out from the kitchen. Gehry never misses an opportunity to present you with an astounding view. Every curve and corner surprises you with another window and another magnificent vista. It was like being inside a diamond – each pane of glass like a skillfully cut facet, playing with the light and reflecting its surroundings.

Like so many of LV’s artistic collaborations, it was an immersive experience that takes you on a journey, telling a story along the way – much like this one today.

The white sculptures, with one foot in the future and one foot in the past, capture the very essence of the SERIES 3 exhibit – a celebration of the past with a tip of the hat to the future.

SERIES 3 takes you for a ride through a series of rooms, starting off in darkness and emerging into the stark bright light of the white room.

Each sculpture is a personification of LV’s new emerging trends in the hands of Art Director Nicolas Ghesquière. Such a beautiful way to showcase accessories.

Jewellery is always a welcome sight and this futuristic piece is quite unlike the collections of Lorenz Baumer – one of the greatest jewellery designers of our time, and someone I admire immensely. Known more recently for his beautiful creations under the LV brand label, Baumer is now fully immersed in his own jewellery house.

Of course, I can’t mention Louis Vuitton jewellery without mentioning their patented flower-cut diamond, so emblematic of their brand. This unique cut has between 61 and 77 facets, making it sparkle more than a princess cut or brilliant cut. Exquisite and so innovative.

The future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades! And these shades, I just gotta have! Don’t you just love these mini LV trunks?

I have to hand it to you! This wonderfully immersive exhibit has given me an idea for a future jewellery show. One that tells a story of the creative process, with crazy visuals and effects that make the room spin, while the guests sit back and get giddy on champagne!

One of my favourite features of the whole exhibit was watching the artisans craft those cute LV trunks. The whole process was streamed live across the globe, and showcased some of the traditional methods of crafting luggage. You could also watch the whole virtual experience from the Artists’ Hands room at the exhibit.

The exhibit plays out like a deconstructed fashion show and gives the audience a taste of the whole catwalk experience. With life-sized screens of models and mirrors everywhere, walking through this room was a captivating and dizzying experience.

Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière is certainly making his mark, starting with the iconic LV logo. His fresh and modern style is one I see myself wearing. I love how innovative this 150-year-old brand is and how welcome they are to new ideas.
