DAY ONE: THE MOST SPECTACULAR HIGH JEWELLERY FROM PARIS COUTURE WEEK 2017 – ANNA HU, PIAGET, DIOR, CHAUMET
Such an exciting time at Paris Haute Couture week that I can’t wait to tell you all about it. I’m going to show you some of the most exquisite jewels from the world’s most famous haute jewellery houses.
Twice a year this magnificent event takes over the City of Love. It’s a time where fashion designers and jewellery designers come together to showcase their haute collections. It was going to be a jam-packed schedule of previewing the latest high jewellery collections from more than 20 jewellers.
I spent the week hopping from suite to suite at the Ritz Paris Hotel, and from boutique to boutique at the Place Vendome for an exclusive sneak peek of these magnificent haute jewellery collections, a privilege only reserved for jewellery editors and their clients. My evenings were filled with after parties and rubbing elbows with the most respected and talented designers in the business.
But the best part is, I got to try on some of the most exquisite haute jewellery I’ve ever seen, and even modeled some of my favourite pieces for clients. I can’t wait to share with you the superbly distinctive designs I saw, and the unparalleled craftsmanship and innovative skill that goes into each piece. You’ll see some of the finest and rarest gems the world has to offer. What you won’t see is the band of security guards that surrounded me every time I tried on a piece! I’ve never felt so perfectly safe and pampered in Paris!
What I love the most about these High Jewellery collections is the stories each piece has to tell. These collections are the highest form of jewellery-making in existence. Each collection showcases the jewellery house’s skill at sourcing the most extraordinary gemstones the world has ever seen, and the highest level of craftsmanship, innovation, and design imaginable. So grateful to be part of this experience, and to be able to share with you all the inspiration and stories behind these phenomenal haute jewellery collections.
PARIS COUTURE WEEK DAY 1 – Spend the day with me at the Avenue Montaigne offices of Christian Dior, and step into a secret garden that sets the stage for their lavish new collection of floral jewellery, inspired by the gardens of Versailles.
PARIS COUTURE WEEK DAY 2 – You’ll feel like you’ve stepped out of Paris right onto the beaches of the Riviera with CHANEL Fine Jewelry and their new Flying Cloud collection. An elaborate beach scene with sand and beach chairs to evoke the spirit of the Riviera, you’ll be inspired by CHANEL’s new haute collection.
PARIS COUTURE WEEK DAY 3 – Hop over to the Mediterranean now, and lose yourself in the sounds of tropical birds and the beautiful colours of exotic flowers. This is the world of Giampiero Bodino and his latest haute jewellery collection. You’ll completely forget you’re in Paris at the Ritz Hotel!
Enjoy this rare treat and let the fun begin! And don’t forget to share with me your thoughts in the comments below, so I can bring you more of what excites you in the world of haute jewellery.
What can I tell you about Anna Hu. Well, for starters, her last name means butterfly, and you know how much I love butterflies. Much of her inspiration comes from her background in classical music. As a prodigy cellist, her pieces of jewellery are often lyrical and musical. Her latest high jewellery collection reflects her heritage and nature, and her love of art nouveau and impressionism. She insists on working with French-trained artisans, because they are masters of old world craftsmanship and pioneers of new world innovation. Hu’s fresh, innovative approach didn’t escape me.
You’ll love this story of how her father inspired her to create one of the most beautiful pieces of jewellery I’ve ever seen. Her father, a gem dealer, gave Anna the challenge of creating approximately one hundred designs from two thousand stones. But Anna had different designs in mind. Inspired by Monet’s water lilies and colour palette, she created something magical, all in one piece of spectacular jewellery. It’s truly beautiful.
To honour her namesake, every year Hu creates a new butterfly made of beautiful jewels. This year’s creation features 16 enchanting moonstones.
Piaget’s newest High Jewellery collection, Sunlight Journey, draws inspiration from the splendour and beauty of the Amalfi Coast, my favourite place in Europe. It’s a scenic place of wonder, soaked in culture and artistic history. A land kissed by light and fire and volcanos, and blessed with azure blue seas. To study the changing light as the day moves from morning to afternoon to evening, is for an artist, the most captivating thing of all. It is this Sunlight Journey that Piaget has brought to life in a dazzling new collection of haute jewellery. Blue sapphires, yellow diamonds, and other exceptional gems express this journey through the palette of the Amalfi Coast and the cultivated skills made famous by Maison Piaget.
DIOR À VERSAILLES CÔTÉ JARDINS
A truly transformative experience at the Place Vendome Avenue Montaigne Dior Headquarter, where I encountered a garden inspired by the Roi Soleil that sparkled with the most exceptional jewels, shrouded in darkness. Dior à Versailles, côté Jardins, the pinnacle jewellery collection the House has ever presented, was designed by Victoire de Castellane, Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie. Sixty-six pieces comprise this spectacular haute jewellery collection, 29 of which are truly unique.
CHAUMET EST UNE FÊTE
Inspired by four musical places outside of its realm, the Parisian Maison, Chaumet, has created an exciting new collection of High Jewellery called Est Une Fête. Chaumet didn’t have to look far for inspiration, as their archives are rich with exquisite designs to reinvent and remaster. Four separate venues are celebrated through this collection, starting with the Glyndebourne Festival and a Scottish tartan motif, captured in gem bows and rich emeralds. Next is the Vienna Opera and my favourite piece, a diamond and pearl tiara, as it reminds me of when I lived in this beautiful city. The opera and rich, elegant winter balls are imagined through the purity of pearls and diamonds. For those more hot-blooded lovers, there’s the passionate red gems of La Scala collection. And finally, to depict the falling leaves of autumn against the sunlit skies of New York, fiery amber gemstones unite to ignite musical memories of the Metropolitan Opera.
