HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT ANNIVERSARY GIFT

Of course, an anniversary gift absolutely has to be jewellery! Ideally, a piece that exudes timeless elegance to be treasured forever! In this article I am sharing my tips on how to pick the perfect anniversary gift, and why gift giving is important for your relationship. A must-read for you and your boyfriend. The inspiration behind this article was my own anniversary last week with my fiancé, which I’ll also tell you about.

I am surprised at just how many people underestimate the power of gift giving, and the effect it can have on a relationship. Gift giving is one of the special ways to convey love between two people, because it lets your partner know you are thinking of him or her, even when you are not together! This crucial part of a relationship is often overlooked, especially by men. Gift giving is something that should not be a chore. It must come from the heart. Doesn’t it give you great pleasure to surprise and delight your special someone?

Ladies, do not forget to share this article with your significant other. Gift giving is important because it will make your woman feel truly special, knowing you took the time and effort to find her the perfect gift. So, start thinking about how to make her feel happy!

HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT ANNIVERSARY GIFT

  1. Think carefully about your partner and what she likes. When you’re together, be more attentive and listen to her hints and remarks about what she likes or wants.
  2. Don’t leave it until the last minute. For me forced gifts are never good or meaningful enough. Personally, I prefer finding gifts without adhering to any particular deadline, because I know they’ll love it no matter what the occasion.
  3. Choose your budget. Remember: a gift does not necessarily have to be expensive, but it should be thoughtful.
  4. Go for a timeless gift. Right now, I like chunky jewellery and minimalistic design. But in the future, my tastes will change. An anniversary gift needs to be a significant piece that I can still wear in 10-15 years time.
  5. Do your research online before going shopping. Here are my favourite online boutiques to give you some inspiration.
  6. I am not a big fan of sharing wish lists with my partner. But I feel a gift card from somewhere like MatchesFashion would be a very nice way thing to give. Or try picking out something together.
  7. Think of brands you have recently come across online or seen on Instagram, Pinterest and jewellery blogs.

Remember how good it feels to be on the receiving end of an anniversary gift you put a lot of time and thought into. Your lady will be over the moon and you’ll feel a sense of overwhelming fulfillment seeing how happy you’ve made her. That kind of feeling has no monetary value. The joy you get from opening a gift is only temporary, but giving the perfect gift gives you the pleasure of a memory that will last forever.

For me, an anniversary gift has to be emotionally significant rather than trendy. I was so impressed when I learned how much effort my fiancé put into finding a gift for me this year. He browsed Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, and Harrods in London after work for five hours! He was determined to find something special for me and I was pleasantly surprised by how much trouble he went through. We all know how much men dislike shopping. Later he told me how he knew how much I’ve been talking about butterflies and metamorphosis lately, so he was inspired to find that special something for me with that theme. I loved his limited edition post card art with butterfly. He also purchased a cute butterfly pendant from the collection he saw me wearing during my Annoushka social media takeover in the Maldives. I felt that this gorgeous butterfly pendant would make an amazing birthday gift but not an anniversary gift. Even though it was not trendy, it did not have much significance behind it.

Together, we chose to go for a jewellery piece from H.Stern, a Brazilian jewellery house close to my heart that I visited when I was in Rio and whose pieces I love wearing for weddings. I wore a pair of dazzling H.Stern star earrings to my own engagement party  at South Kensington Club in London. A lucky girl like me can pull fabulous pieces to wear on a special occasions and trips!

After much deliberation, we decided on the Genesis H.Stern Ring for my anniversary gift. This ring celebrates H.Stern’s 70 year history and is a return to an old classic. The collection revives the star and represents a host of fascinating celestial bodies. It’s like a journey through time to a place where men were seduced by the wonders and mystery of the skies.

GENESIS H.STERN RING

I felt that H.Stern would be perfect for me because of its versatile nature. I was initially sceptical about their cognac diamonds but in combination with their signature colour of gold, noble gold, and antique feel, it looked perfect! I loved how it looked on, complementing my engagement ring. This is also a piece that I can wear on a daily basis in London.

My Brazilian fiancé loved the story behind the ring about Halley’s comet that crossed paths with the earth in 1986. Even though he was only three years old at the time, he vividly remembers it being a big deal with his family in Brazil and all of them watching it. We loved the idea to celebrate Halley’s comet next time it passes the Earth in 2061. So silly and romantic! I do like to plan things in advance and create special memorable moments!

We are also planning to have this ring engraved to make it an even more special anniversary gift. My engagement ring is engraved with the word Serendipity, the meaning of which I will tell you in my next article.
