L’ÉCOLE VAN CLEEF & ARPELS PLACE VENDOME PARIS

Looking for the absolute perfect gift this year apart from a 50 carat Diamond this Christmas? I have an idea for the jewelry lover in your life- a course with L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris! The short course from 300 euro that offers to teach you everything you need to know about some of the world’s most famous jewels, you’ll even get to see them for yourself. Set against the stunning backdrop of Place Vendôme, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I guarantee that you will never look at fine jewelry in the same way again!

I attended L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels school in Paris and took a History of Art class. I was excited about attending and it proved to be everything that I had hoped for! I loved it so much that I can’t wait to come back and dive into the heart of a mechanical watch with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie for the upcoming lifestyle watch website Watch The Space.

L’ECOLE was created by Van Cleef & Arpels to open up the hidden worlds of jewelry and watchmaking. The school offers a discovery program that is based around three main themes: History of Art, The Universe of Gemstones and Savoir Faire. There are a total of 13 courses, 4 hours each that are led by professionals: jewelers, art historians, experts, gemologists, historians specializing in timepieces and watchmaking practices.

L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels school is located on Place Vendôme, in a picturesque 18th century renovated townhouse. The building has been renovated to perfection and made a fabulous first impression on me. Upon entering the building, the school is instantly welcoming and luxurious, with high ceilings and exceptional study rooms. The location and space is as impressive as the level of teaching and passion of the team who runs the school.

History of Art class we were taught to recognise a broad range of key movements in jewelry design, we also discussed the deep imprint that jewelry has made on the world’s cultures. Through discussion and hands-on activities, professors shared their in-depth knowledge.

I am passionate about the topic of jewelry leaving Russia after the revolution. I enjoyed that questions were welcomed and discussion was encouraged, these lead to a very interesting discussion during the class. The teachers also offered a list of recommended books to read to further my knowledge on this topic, it was suggested I visit the  L’ECOLE library with it’s extensive section on jewelry books. I found this to be a true jewelry blogger paradise! I also like the fact that additional reading was provided in our pack as well as the certificate that was awarded on completing the course.

During the three hours of the course, we were not shown any jewelry and I was anxious to see some of the examples discussed during the class. I was planning on making a trip to the museums just to see the pieces for myself. However, the class was left with a lovely surprise! There was a very special parlours which showcased some of these decadent jewels, we had the chance to get up close and really understand the stunning jewelry! This part of the course was the icing on the cake and was worth the wait.
