BOUCHERON SERPENT BOHÈME COLLECTION
I visited Boucheron in London’s Mayfair to view the new Serpent Bohème collection. I got to see some amazing vintage Boucheron pieces from the 1970’s while collaborating with Harper’s Bazaar at the Lapada Art & Antiques Fair. It was exciting to see the rebirth of Serpent Bohème. It’s also truly wonderful how each collection draws upon it’s history along with the values of the Maison. Each piece celebrates a chic modern attitude that is constantly being reinvented.
It didn’t take me long to pick out my favorite pieces: The Boucheron white gold bracelet and long everyday chain set with pave diamonds caught my eye instantly. It was also wonderful to see prices start from £2,000, given that Boucheron was the first jeweler on Place Vendôme to embody excellence in fine jewelry, high jewelry and watchmaking, it has remained an established name for well over 150 years. Another favorite of mine are the dainty rings in yellow or white gold from the collection. They are so easy to wear, they stack on top of one another for a fabulous statement on each finger! In Toi et Moi, several rings are worn together on the index or and fingers. I adore the play of carefree elegance between the diamond-pave drops and their gold beads.
Among the iconic figures of the Maison Boucheron, the serpent is a particularly symbolic creature that is associated with a long history. It is known as a protective figure, for many traditions it is a token of love and the promise of happiness. The serpent has a long history with Boucheron itself, it has been part of the Maison’s bestiary for many years. First seen back in 1888 when Frederic Boucheron gifted his wife a necklace in the shape of a serpent in celebration of their wedding anniversary.
Well lucky for us Serpent Bohème is back with some truly irresistible new creations! While we visited Lapada with Harper’s Bazaar, I had the chance to discover the original Boucheron earrings, signed 1970. Take a look at these first designs and find that they are so free, the Boucheron Serpent has been a big part of the feminine bohemian spirit since the collections beginning in 1968.
The new collection was initially relaunched in 2013. However, the Boucheron have added to the success of the Serpent Bohème collection with some fabulous new additions- and it has to be said that I am a fan of the irresistible new pieces!
Lithe and sinuous chains are beautifully set with pavé diamonds that wrap around the neck: Pretty delicately set for an elegant Serpent! The other is more casual in it’s appeal, I adore the openwork detail that is so attention grabbing! Whether you are up for glamour or playfulness, it’s difficult not to surrender to the sheer beauty of Serpent Bohème. For me it’s the free spirit that floats throughout the collection, this bestows on it a delightfully feminine quality.
As a collection, Serpent Bohème influence spans beyond time and generations. Each piece is a talisman in itself, a signature and a sign of recognition for Boucheron women of all generations.
Below are my other favourite jewels from Boucheron collections.
